Julian Nagelsmann Extends Contract with DFB until 2026: Uli Hoeneß Comments on Decision

There will be no comeback from Julian Nagelsmann at FC Bayern for the time being. The 36-year-old will continue with the national team until 2026. Uli Hoeneß has now commented on the decision.

Julian Nagelsmann has extended his contract with the German Football Association until 2026. “This is a decision that has to be respected,” said Bavaria’s honorary president Hoeneß to “BR24Sport” in response to the official announcement on Friday afternoon.

FC Bayern had recently considered Nagelsmann’s return. His advisor Volker Struth even confirmed discussions in the podcast “Spielmacher – the EM podcast from 360Media with Sebastian Hellmann”. But Nagelsmann, who was on the sidelines at FC Bayern between July 2021 and March 2023, is continuing with the DFB.

“I think it’s a shame, but now he has decided for the national team. The world won’t end at FC Bayern because of that,” commented Hoeneß.

FC Bayern: Hoeneß not present in discussions

The personnel at Säbener Straße is now off the table. FC Bayern’s search for a coach continues.

Hoeneß trusts in the work of sports director Max Eberl and sports director Christoph Freund. Like ex-boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, he himself is no longer involved in specific coaching discussions, the 72-year-old revealed to “BR24Sport”.

There is still no white smoke rising from Säbener Strasse. Ralf Rangnick (Austria national coach), Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton & Hove Albion), Roger Schmidt (Benfica) and Co. are currently considered candidates.

According to “Sky,” FC Bayern “has discussed Sebastian Hoeneß again in the last few hours.” The successful Stuttgart coach only extended his contract with VfB until 2027 in March. The 41-year-old became third division champions with FC Bayern II in the 2019/20 season and therefore knows the club very well.
