Juan Carlos Unzué motivates the Kosner-Saltoki Home team before the Titan Desert Morocco

“With your efforts you will be helping to ensure that ALS can have a treatment or cure as soon as possible”

BARCELONA, 9 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Kosner – Saltoki Home team will compete in the Skoda Titan Desert Morocco for the second consecutive year and will once again convert the efforts of its cyclists into a donation to the Luzon Foundation for the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), with the additional motivation received in the previous days by former soccer player Juan Carlos Unzué, who has been fighting the disease since 2019.

Unzué participated in the initiative with a very motivating message to the ‘titans’ during the concentration they had in the Tarragona town of La Pineda, and was “excited” to be able to form, in some way, part of the team.

As a participant in events such as the Cape Epic, before being diagnosed, the former goalkeeper reminded the cyclists of his experiences and encouraged them not to stop fighting when they are in full pain during the race. “If at any time phrases like ‘What the hell am I doing here?’ or ‘Who would send me to come to this?’, remember that with your effort and perseverance you will be helping ALS to have a treatment or a cure as soon as possible,” he was sincere.

In addition, he pointed out what is needed to safely face a test as tough as the Titan Desert. “That competitive gene that we have and that all the participants who will go to the Titan have is what keeps you eager, excited and perseverant,” she commented.

“If I have to tell you the truth, I have always been very optimistic, but in this I don’t have much hope that I will be able to benefit. But rest assured that I will be left with the peace of mind that I have done everything possible so that those who come can have that treatment or cure,” he told the team members.

Unzué closed his talk with a funny anecdote when he participated in the Cape Epic with his good friend Luis Enrique, current coach of Paris Saint-Germain, and revealed that one of the reasons why he did not go to the Skoda Titan Desert is because he hates sand, and that in the second stage of that Epic there was a lot of it.

“It reminded me of the Titan because there was a lot of sand. In that section I fell. And I knew how to fall because I was a goalkeeper. But you had to get up, get back on the bike, start… When there were twenty kilometers left I told Luis: ‘ When you reach the finish line, tell the doctors because I won’t be able to get off the bike.’ And that’s how it was. Since then I haven’t had cramps like that again. The serum they gave me was great for me,” Unzué acknowledged.

This year, the Kosner-Saltoki Home has the largest team in the history of the event, made up of 62 cyclists, and will donate 50 euros to the Luzón Foundation for each member of the team that finishes each of the 6 stages. In addition, it will add 1,000 euros for each daily stage victory in the Male, Female, Mixed and Team categories, and another 1,000 euros for each first place in the final classification in the Male, Female, Mixed, Team, Elite, Master 40, Master categories 50 and Master 60.

For this year’s edition, which will take place from April 28 to May 3, Kosner-Saltoki Home has set up a top-level team, made up of clients, employees and professional cyclists, such as Miguel Induráin, Óscar Pereiro, Luis León Sánchez , Sylvain Chavanel and Pruden Induráin.
