“Leverkusen would never have allowed it”

“Leverkusen has a great team, we play very good football. We don’t die beautifully, we can also scratch and bite. I think little will change in terms of the team and their appearance. “So I think that a lot is possible for Leverkusen with coach Xabi Alonso next season and Bayer 04 remains a title candidate,” he told Sport Bild.

The 24-year-old is currently on loan from FC Bayern to Bayer, but it is currently unclear whether the Croatian will stay in Leverkusen.

“What could be or happen, there is no time for these mental games in our program and title final spurt. There’s no point in puzzling over it now. If so, those responsible would have to sort it out,” said Stanisic, who scored one goal and added three more in 28 competitive games this season.

Stanisic: “It’s not about me, about my well-being”

The defender had already regretted that he might no longer be able to work with Alonso from next season, who recently ended all speculation about his future, will remain with the Werkself and will therefore not be the successor to outgoing coach Thomas Tuchel at FCB.

“I have known Xabi Alonso for a year now and know how good he is: to the team, to me personally. It might have been nice to continue working with him. But it’s not about me, about how I feel. “The statement was perhaps wishful thinking and an expression of my admiration for Xabi Alonso,” Stanisic now specified in Sport Bild.

When asked how current his connection to the bosses from Munich was, Stanisic replied: “I am in good communication with those responsible. But we haven’t gone into the detailed planning for next season yet.”

In this context, the youngster denied any thoughts of returning to Munich in the winter because: “There was a huge staff shortage at Bayern. I think this option never existed and Leverkusen would never have allowed it.”

Leverkusen already champions after the Werder game?

Stanisic nevertheless added: “I am still in contact with many ex-colleagues, for example I speak on the phone with Thomas Müller. What’s happening in Munich doesn’t leave me unmoved. But pity certainly doesn’t help any player at Bayern, nobody wants that.”

Bayer Leverkusen currently leads the Bundesliga table with a 16-point lead over Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart and can be crowned German champions for the first time with a win on Sunday (5:30 p.m.) against Werder Bremen.

If Bayern lose against 1. FC Cologne and VfB against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, the Werkself could perhaps even celebrate the title on the couch.
