Jonathan Christie’s Journey to the 2024 Badminton Asian Championship Final

JAKARTA – Indonesia’s only son Jonatan Christie lost in the final of the 2024 Badminton Asian Championship (BAC) in Hangbo, China after defeating top seed Shi Yu Qi on Saturday.

Jonatan prevailed over Shi in the semifinals with a strict rubber match 18-21, 21-19, 21-12.

The only son who fell as the third seed said one of the keys to his victory today was that he was able to enjoy the match despite being extremely pressure-filled from opponents.

“All this thanks to the help of God who allowed me to play well. Being able to play with pleasure, being able to get out of the pressure and certainly being happy with this victory,” said Jonatan, quoted in a brief description of the PP PBSI reported by Antara.

Talking about how the last four matches went, in the first match Jonatan admitted that he was less calm while playing, especially at crucial moments when he was leading 18-17.

“At the last moment, I’m not even calm. The use of strategy and moves is not synchronous. In the first game and the end of the second game, he was lacking a little bit there,” said the 2024 English Open champion.

Moreover, in the second game when Jonatan led 18-10, many points were lost not because of loss of concentration. However, Jonatan judged that Shi was capable of playing much better.

“The defense is more united. So sometimes I look forward to facing or returning is responsible,” he said.

Furthermore, Jonatan said that in the third game he then tried as much as possible by reducing his own mistakes.

“I also put more pressure on first so that the opponent would also be depressed. This strategy works,” he said.

The 2023 French Open winner said he will not make himself Indonesia’s only remaining representative in the top four of the BAC 2024 party.

“As the only Indonesian representative in the semi-final, I’m just trying to reduce those thoughts. Lie if I’m not overwhelmed. However, I just try to reduce that so as not to interfere with the appearance,” Jonatan said.

The gold medal winner at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, the player is also determined to perform optimally in tomorrow’s summit. Not to mention, he asked for prayers and support from badminton fans in Indonesia.

“I certainly hope for the best in the final. Whatever the outcome, I did as much as I could,” Jonatan said.

“And please pray and support your friends, the people of Indonesia, the fans who are fans of Indonesian badminton. I hope that tomorrow he can produce the best,” he added.
