The Baltimore Sun has named Gilman’s Jay Wilkerson and Manchester Valley’s Alex Carroll as the High School Athletes of the Week for the period of April 1-7.

The recipient of the Boys Sport Athlete of the Week award is Jay Wilkerson, a lacrosse player from Gilman.
Every week, The Baltimore Sun will select one male high school athlete and one female high school athlete to honor for their athletic accomplishments.
Alex Carroll of Manchester Valley is the recipient of this week’s Girls Athlete of the Week award for her impressive performance in softball.
Due to inclement weather, the senior third baseman took advantage of her limited playing time by contributing to two victories on Saturday. In the games against Aberdeen (27-1) and local rivals South Carroll (12-5), the Mavericks scored a total of 39 runs. Carroll had an impressive performance at the plate, going 6-for-8 with four RBIs, four runs, and three doubles. The Mavericks currently have a record of 4-1, and Carroll boasts a batting average of .500 and a .938 fielding percentage while playing third base.
The veteran forward scored a total of nine goals and four assists, leading the No. 10 Greyhounds (6-2) to two victories in the past week. In Tuesday’s match against Ohio powerhouse St. Ignatius, Wilkerson tallied four goals and two assists in a 15-8 win. On Friday, he added five goals and two assists in a dominant 25-7 win over John Carroll to kick off the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference. As a captain and Providence commit, Wilkerson has a total of 22 goals and 16 assists so far this season.
