Jokic shines in victory against Timberwolves and Nuggets take the lead in the west

DENVER (AP) — Nikola Jokic delivered a dazzling 41-point performance to lead the Denver Nuggets to a 116-107 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday and atop the Western Conference.

Jokic made 16 of 20 shots against the best defense in the NBA, despite being jealously guarded all night by Rudy Gobert. Jamal Murray added 20 points in 27 minutes, while Michael Porter Jr. scored 18 points.

Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 25 points, but he didn’t shine in the fourth quarter, when Denver pulled away. Mike Conley added 19 points for the Wolves.

The Nuggets (56-24) took a one-game lead over Minnesota itself and Oklahoma City, which have records of 55-25. The Thunder crushed San Antonio 127-89 on Wednesday to continue with a chance of finishing first in the West.

Denver, the defending NBA champion, is the best home team in the conference, with a record of 33-8.
