Joel Schwärzler wins a challenger-level match for the first time in his professional career!
The 18-year-old Austrian beat the Italian Giovanni Fonio (ATP No. 301) 6:2, 6:4 in Tallahassee, USA.
The match goes according to plan for the Vorarlberger, in the first set he is able to take a 3-0 lead thanks to two breaks. For the most part, Schwärzler plays his serves confidently; he only has to fend off a break ball when being served out to win the set.
The second set is tighter, but one break is enough for number 941 in the ATP rankings to be successful.
In the round of 16, Schwärzler will face Briton Henry Searle (ATP No. 764), who surprisingly defeated top seed Jeffrey John Wolf.
