FC Barcelona has achieved a minimal victory in LaLiga. When visiting Cádiz, the Catalans won 0-1 thanks to a striking bicycle kick from João Félix. Thanks to the victory, the gap to Real Madrid remains eight points. El Clasico is on the program in the next round, but Spain’s numbers one and two will first focus entirely on the return in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Xavi, who had to take a seat in the stands, put a completely different team on the field than in the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain (2-3 win). It had everything to do with the return, which is already scheduled for next Tuesday.
On goal, Marc-André ter Stegen kept his place under the crossbar. The four-man defense in front of him consisted of Héctor Fort, Pau Cubarsí, Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso. In the 37th minute of play, Barcelona suddenly scored. After a corner kick from the right, the ball landed at the perfect height for João Félix, who put the 0-1 lead on the scoreboard with a brilliant bicycle kick.
On the stroke of half-time, Fermín could even have scored the 0-2, but his attempt was cleared off the line. Ten minutes after halftime, Cádiz thought they had leveled. Juanmi made it 1-1, but it quickly became clear that he scored from an offside position: the goal was disallowed.
The game became more and more interesting halfway through the second half. Cádiz worked hard and came close to the equalizer with a placed shot by Diadie Samassekou, but Ter Stegen made an excellent save. Furthermore, Cádiz was unable to create big chances, while Barcelona was no longer able to score.
