After a few weeks of unrest and hard work, Brabrand IF Badminton has now succeeded in electing a new chairman and several new board members. However, both a vision evening and an extraordinary general meeting were needed to mobilize the members of the badminton department.

37-year-old Jesper Richardt became the savior for Brabrand IF Badminton – just as he has ensured over many years that the badminton department’s activities have been carried out. When no one else comes forward, Jesper Richardt is always ready to step in.

That was also the case the other day, when Brabrand IF Badminton faced the deepest crisis ever at an extraordinary general meeting: if it was not possible to find a new chairman, the department would close.

There was a good turnout, just as it was the case with the vision meeting a few weeks before. And there was also good interest in the work that keeps the activities going. But no one wanted to be chairman.

Then Jesper Richardt volunteered once more.

“It was, of course, a bit special to be in that situation. I take care of quite a few other tasks in Brabrand Badminton already – but on the other hand, I would be sad if the club had to close otherwise,” says Jesper Richardt.

As youth chairman, he is already a driving force in the many activities for children and young people in the department, and he is also part of the executive committee, which forms the top management of Brabrand IF. In addition, there are many ad hoc tasks when a hand is needed.

“I think it’s really exciting with the post of chairman. There will probably be a little less time for youth work, but fortunately others have volunteered to help with some of the other tasks I am involved with.”

“It will be really good”
Brabrand IF Badminton has been an important part of Jesper Richardt’s life for many years – ever since he started playing badminton in Brabrand as a teenager, even though he grew up in Åbyhøj.

When he was 20, he appeared at the general meeting and, together with the later long-term chairman Kai Thor Hansen, was elected as an alternate to the board.

“We were both tapped on the shoulder and were persuaded to run as alternates. It wasn’t dangerous after all… But the chairman at the time fell ill, and it ended with Kai becoming chairman, and I took the post as youth chairman,” recalls Jesper Richardt.

It is now approximately 17 years ago. Kai Thor Hansen was chairman for 12 years, and now Jesper Richardt is taking over.

“I think it will be really good. We have got some good people on the board who are ready to do something good for Brabrand IF Badminton.”

The vision evening shook up the department
The mood has returned after the ordinary general meeting became a sad low point. The previous chairman Anders Chr. Jespersen had long announced that he could no longer hold the position of chairman – but still only a few showed up, and no one was ready to take over the task.

After consultation with DGI East Jutland, the badminton department convened a vision evening, where there was a good turnout and a great desire to debate the association’s future and development opportunities. A few also promised to run for the board.

“I think that the vision evening helped shake up the department. It became clear to many that we were in a place where there was a need for someone to step in and help,” says Jesper Richardt.

“It would probably make sense to hold such an evening more often. You get to talk things through, and it becomes visible which tasks need to be solved in order for the activities to run.”

It spilled over into the ill-fated extraordinary general meeting, where the atmosphere was good and constructive. It quickly became clear that Jesper Richardt could be persuaded to take the chairmanship, and a full board was also elected:

The two new ones are Thomas Mogensen, who plays on the exercise team on Monday evenings, and Bjørn Aamand from the senior squad. In addition, Gitte Pedersen and Sidsel Homann were elected as alternates.

They complement the current board members Annette Buhl, Dan Kaihøj, Pernille Skov and of course Jesper Richardt.
