UnipolSai Fortitudo Bologna has reached an agreement for the 2024 season with athlete Jefrem Leon. The young community pitcher of Dutch nationality will strengthen the blue and white pitching mound, being able to complete his growth process right under the shadow of the two towers.
Jefrem Leon, slender physique, 185 cm. for 70 kg., was born on 9 September 2002 in Oranjestad Aruba, right-handed pitcher with excellent characteristics both as a starter and as a reliever. He boasts three years of experience in the Minor League in the Washington Nationals franchise, proving to be a pitcher with excellent control (31 base balls in 102 innings), and effective (3 wins, 1 loss, 1 save, 3.26 ERA in 35 games, 20 starting). Among the best prospects produced in recent years by Aruba baseball, he is gifted with that pitch capable of “sitting down” hitters (10.15 strikeouts every 9 innings).
At just 18 years old, in January 2021, he was chosen as a free agent by the Washington Nationals who assigned him for the entire season to the rookie league team part of the always difficult Dominican Summer League. He was used on 12 occasions, with 3 starts, finishing with an excellent 1.46 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched, topped off with 27 outs at the plate against just 10 base balls allowed.
In 2022 he played both in the Dominican Summer League, being elected to the League’s Mid-Season All-Star, and in the other rookie league, the Florida Complex League, playing a total of 11 games (8 as a starter) with a record of 2 victories and one loss, 2.74 ERA, 48 strikeouts and 11 bases walked in 42.2 innings.
In 2023 he remained with the Nationals in the Florida Complex League, becoming pitcher of the week in the week of July 23rd, playing a total of 11 games (8 as a starter), scoring 35 strikeouts against 9 base balls in 30.2 innings pitched. For him also a match in single A with Fredericksburg in the Carolina League, a start of 4 starts, in which he gets 5 outs at the plate.
In autumn 2022 Jefrem took part in the Under 23 Baseball World Cup with the Netherlands national team, obtaining 2 saves in as many appearances, against Germany and Cuba, without allowing any points and scoring 5 strikeouts in 3 innings pitched.
