Jannik Sinner is No. 2 in world tennis. In the ranking of the top earners in the tennis circuit, the man from Sexten has moved up to position 26.

He himself has probably lost track of his finances by now. With his tournament victory in Miami and the associated prize money of 1.2 million US dollars, Jannik Sinner has moved up to 26th place in the all-time prize money list.

And that at the “tender” tennis player age of 22.

The Sesto tennis professional has so far grossed $21,021,773 ($3,961,288 this year alone).

With his $21 million, Jannik Sinner is just behind the tennis legend Ivan Lendl. The Czech won eight Grand Slam singles titles in the 1970s and ’80s and earned just under $21.3 million (US$21,262,417 to be exact) in his entire career.

Just to put things in perspective and to correctly classify Jannis Sinner’s performance: Ivan Lendl, now 64 and coach of the British Andy Murray, has won no fewer than 94 individual titles in his 17-year career, including the French Open and the US Open three times each , the Australian Open twice – only one victory on the hallowed turf of Wimbledon was denied the terrible Ivan.

Lendl was No. 1 in the world for 270 weeks.

The absolute top earner in world tennis is Novak Djokovic.

The 36-year-old Serb, who separated from his Croatian coach Goran Ivanisevic a few days ago, has won 24 Grand Slam tournaments and has won prize money of an incredible $181,599,018 million in his career so far recorded (see also the info graphic opposite).

Jannik Sinner has moved up to second place in the world rankings with his victory in Miami – this is his 13th title overall and the third this year.

An Italian tennis professional has never made it this far!

The previous ranking record was held by Nicola Pietrangeli, who reached third place in December 1959. Adriano Panatta’s best ranking was 4th in August 1976.

Pietrangeli and Panatta could only dream of the prize and sponsorship money that would be showered on Jannik Sinner.

In addition to the prize money that Sinner collected, there was also the advertising revenue. The US sporting goods manufacturer Nike will pay the likeable redhead 10 million euros per year – for 10 years.

Other top sponsors such as Fastweb, Rolex, Gucci, Lavazza, Parmigiano Reggiano, Alfa Romeo, Intesa San Paolo, Technogym, Pigna and Panini pay him 15 million euros per year.

According to Forbes magazine, Jannik Sinner earned 35.5 million euros last year alone (12.5 million euros in prize money and 23 million from sponsors).

Against this background of numbers it becomes clear:

If Jannik Sinner has been involved in the tennis circuit for anywhere near as long and as successfully as Roger Federer (25 years and 103 individual titles, including eight Wimbledon victories and a total of 310 weeks at the top of the ATP world rankings), he will be an exceptional athlete from the South Tyrolean mountains breaking all existing records.

What is interesting (and highly unusual for a top athlete) is the fact that Jannik Sinner or his management “hides” the Sextner’s girlfriend, Maria Braccini, from the public.

She was in Miami with her sweetheart.

But there is no photo of Jannik Sinner and Maria Braccini together.

The 23-year-old influencer (339,00 followers on Instagram) has been Jannik Sinner’s girlfriend for two years.

According to the Italian sports newspapers (which are very tabloid-oriented), there is an agreement between the Sinner clan and Marica Braccini that she will not publish any photos with Jannik and will not comment publicly on her relationship with the tennis star. The game of hide-and-seek that the Monaco-based couple plays with the media is therefore strategy.

Sinner and his Maria thus differ pleasantly from the footballers and their media-hungry WAGs. In German: player wives.

Back to Center Court:

At the time of his rise to second place in the world rankings, Jannik Sinner was 22 years, seven months and five days old.

In Miami, the former number 1 in women’s tennis, Serena Williams, even bowed to Jannik Sinner (“I would have liked your forehand”).

Serena Williams is not just anyone, the now 42-year-old has won 23 Grand Slam titles in her career and has earned almost 95 million US dollars, the highest career prize money of any female tennis player.

Sinner himself is, as usual, modesty personified.

After reaching the second highest level of world tennis, he said: “Okay, I’m No. 2 in the world, but I come from a completely normal family.”
