Jannik Sinner: A Figurehead for South Tyrol

Sexten – 22-year-old Jannik Sinner from Sexten has not only established himself as a successful tennis player, but is also valued for his enviable attitude and exemplary manners. His reserved and down-to-earth manner, coupled with his success on the international stage, have made him a real figurehead for South Tyrol.

A recent spontaneous survey on Südtirol News showed that the vast majority of participants are of the opinion that Jannik Sinner’s style has a positive effect on the image of South Tyrol. Of the more than 6,000 respondents, an impressive 84 percent agreed with this statement. Only 16 percent did not believe that the young tennis player’s successes on the international tennis courts had a direct impact on the reputation of his home region.

The latter includes user “@”. He writes in the comments section: “Even though Sinner is appreciated everywhere for his friendly demeanor and good manners, I don’t think that will rub off on South Tyrol. To the world public, he is Italian living in Monaco. It’s not noticeable that his native language is German because he mostly gives the interviews in English. Just because Sinner is a likeable person, we don’t have to imagine that everyone believes that all South Tyroleans are like that, especially since most people have never heard of South Tyrol.”

@Shout_It_Out_Loud also writes: “No, Jannik doesn’t have a positive impact! He is one of the manageable, exceptional South Tyroleans who have a great basic character and a good nursery! I think that many South Tyroleans now want to ride on the wave of his success and see themselves as something better in the world. That has nothing to do with being happy! But anyone who has been around the world for a while unfortunately finds the majority of South Tyroleans to be far too conservative with a suboptimal level of education, stubborn, messed up, prejudiced, envious, self-absorbed, arrogant, hypocritical, cold-hearted and so on. Unfortunately, Jannik won’t change anything!”

@xXx sees it from an economic point of view: “Not just its kind. South Tyrol is repeatedly mentioned internationally to an audience of millions. Pictures of his homeland are shown on TV and online. Every tennis fan in the world knows the pictures of the young skier Sinner. The market value that Sinner has for South Tyrol is enormous.”
