ITALIANI TRAIL & MOUNTAIN RUNNING

The two Italian Mountain Running Championships which will take place in the Province of Sondrio, at the water hall of the Bim dell’Adda Consortium, were presented to the media in the presence of the local authorities. The Short Trail one scheduled for Sunday 14 April in Morbegno and the uphill and downhill one reserved for young people and absolutes scheduled for 4 and 5 May in Lanzada.

Once the usual greetings were over, the technical staff of Team Valtellina took care of getting to the heart of the press conference by showing off the Colmen Trail programme. The route designed in 2023 by the boys of president Vitale Tacchini has been confirmed with a faster first half on the Orobic side and a second on the Rhaetian side with the passage on the mountain symbol of the race, the Colmen di Dazio, with technical and demanding sections and a fast finish throughout to push.

Two days after registration closes, scheduled for 8pm on Thursday, the attendance record set in the last edition has been largely surpassed, with 280 registered for the 33km distance and 270 for the shorter 16km version.

Browsing the list of members, the names of many athletes from the Italian national team stand out. In the women’s category, home favorite Alice Gaggi will try to reconfirm herself, but she will have to defend herself from the attacks of Cecilia Basso, second twelve months ago in Morbegno and the always competitive Elisa Desco.

In the men’s race, after second place in 2023, Luca Del Pero from Brianza returns to triumph at the Colmen Trail and will not have an easy life, given the presence of Fabio Ruga from Como and Lorenzo Beltrami from Lecco.

As regards the Italian Youth and Overall Uphill and Downhill Championship organized by Sportiva Lanzada, president Serafino Bardea presented the program and race routes to those present.

We will start on Saturday 4 May with the youth categories; the female and male debutants will open the dance, followed by girls and boys. The Malenco running event will come to life with the four races that will award the Italian titles: the cadets will tackle a 2300m route with a D+ of 80m, while the cadets will cover 2500m and D+ 120m, the students will have a 2800m lap with a D+ of 160m, while the students will have a 4000m route with D+ 250m.

On Sunday it will be the turn of the absolute categories. The first to leave will be the junior men, followed by the women; both categories will cover a 7.1km lap with a positive difference in altitude of 300m. At the end of these races it will be the turn of the senior/master categories, who will complete two laps with a length of 13km and D+ of 600m.

Registrations for the Italian Lanzada championships must be made online on the federal website (by midnight on Wednesday 1 May 2024.

Also present in the room was Alice Gaggi, the Valtellina athlete from the Bergamo team La Recastello Radici Group, who in addition to the upcoming test of the Italian Short Trail Championship, confirmed the presence of Lanzada in the tricolors, which we remember will also be valid as an indicative test for the European uphill and downhill championships, scheduled for the end of May in Annecy, France.
