Italian Archery Team Strikes Gold in Outdoor Debut at “Spring Arrows” Event

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The outdoor debut of the Olympic archery national team is a success: the Azzurri return from Antalya, where they played the “Spring Arrows”, with four medals, at the end of a good test ahead of the first official international World Cup trip, taking place in Shanghai at the end of the month. In Turkey, the men’s team (Nespoli, Borsani, Musolesi) and the mixed team (Nespoli, Rebagliati) won gold; in the individual, Federico Musolesi took silver and Chiara Rebagliati took bronze. Italy finishes in second place in the medal table, together with Germany (2 gold, one silver, 1 bronze), behind only Turkey (3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze).
The final for the gold of Matteo Borsani, Mauro Nespoli and Federico Musolesi against Great Britain immediately started well for the Azzurri who took a 4-0 lead, thanks to scores of 56-53 and 54-53. The British try to get back into the game in the third volley (56-55) but Italy leaves no room for a comeback, closing the score with 53-51 in the last set which is worth 6-2.
The mixed team final in which Chiara Rebagliati and Mauro Nespoli beat Spain (Canales-Temino) 5-4 (20-16) in the shoot-off is more competitive, but always sees Italy win gold. The match has a precise script with the Iberians leading twice, with 37-36 and 35-34 in the first and third and third sets, and the Azzurri recovering the deficit with 39-36 and 39-37 . Thus we go to the play-off arrows in which Rebagliati and Nespoli are perfect and with a double 10 they beat their opponents who stop at 9 and 7.
Federico Musolesi’s quest for an individual medal starts in the afternoon and sees him winning in the semi-final against the Uzbek Sadikov in the shoot-off 6-5. The success opens the doors for the Italian to the final against the home favorite Mete Gazoz, the reigning Olympic champion. The Turk shoots almost perfectly, placing all his arrows on the “10” except one, a frenetic pace to which Musolesi surrenders 6-0.
The fourth Italian medal in Antalya still bears the signature of Chiara Rebagliati, who first lost the semi-final with the German Schwarz 6-2 then took revenge in the challenge for third place with the other German Kroppen. The clash is a whirlwind of emotions with Rebagliati taking a 2-0 lead (29-27) but before the last set he finds himself 5-3 down due to the draw in the second set (27-27) and the defeats in the two subsequent matches both ended 27-26. The Italian archer, however, does not give up, drawing the match (28-25) and sending it to the shoot-off, where her 9 is closer than her opponent’s and is worth the bronze.
