Ismaël Diouf Selected as First Pick in LECB Draft

A month after leading the Laval University Rouge et Or to the gold medal in the 8 Ultime played at home in front of a delirious crowd, winger Ismaël Diouf becomes the very first pick in the Canadian Elite League draft basketball (LECB).

Holding the first choice of the auction, the Montreal Alliance bet on Diouf, who was chosen player of excellence of the Ultimate 8. In three games, he averaged 18.3 points and 11.7 rebounds and was named player of the game twice.

Diouf is the only RSEQ player selected in the first round. Nathan Grant is not surprised by the emergence of his star player. “Ismaël has always had the potential and the work ethic to perform at a high level,” said the Rouge et Or head coach in a press release. He just lacked a little confidence.”

“The experience acquired since his arrival with the Rouge et Or and the contribution of his teammates helped him acquire this confidence,” continued Grant. Now, all the aspects essential to its success have been brought together. This experience in the LECB will allow him to become, one step at a time, the best version of himself.”

Diouf becomes the second player in history claimed by the Alliance after Marc-André Fortin in the second round in 2022.

During the other two rounds, the Alliance drew twice more from the ranks of the RSEQ by betting on Bahaïde Haïdara and Renoldo Robinson of the Citadins de l’UQAM, a team which won the provincial championship and finished in 5th place at the nationals for a second consecutive year.

The Alliance will play its first match on May 23.
