Ionian Coast Judokas Compete at European Championships in Zagreb

The Ionian coast of Messina will be the protagonist at the European Judo Championships scheduled for Thursday 25 April in Zagreb, Croatia. Elios Manzi and Lorenzo Rigano from S.Teresa di Riva and Angelo Pantano who lives in Furci Siculo are among the 21 Italian nationals competing for a medal against the strongest European judokas.
Manzi and Pantano will participate in the individual competitions in the 66kg and 60kg categories respectively and are in the running for the Olympic pass. Rigano (90kg) has instead been called up for the team competition which will take place on Sunday.
The three judokas are part of the Fiamme Gialle sports group but they grew up – obtaining numerous successes reported several times in the Gazzetta Jonica – in the Airon Judo 90 gym of master Corrado Bongiorno, also in Zagreb as a member of the technical staff of the Italian national team.
A delegation that makes not only Maestro Bongiorno proud, but the Ionian coast of Messina and all of Sicily. And it confirms once again the prestigious tradition of the judo gyms of Furci Siculo.

Not only the Airon Judo 90, but also the Asd Ippon club. The Casale brothers’ gym has its spearhead in Elena Storione, the young judoka who continues to achieve important results. Last Sunday you took part in the European Junior Cup in Lignano Sabbiadoro, placing seventh in the category. 52kg and was called up to the national team to carry out the training camp. The next event will be the European junior cup in Croatia, Sunday 5 May. Storione is in the running for qualification for the European and World Junior Championships which will take place in the summer, in August and September.
