OldStars Badminton is a collaboration between the Elderly Fund and Badminton Netherlands. Together we build a lifetime of exercise and badminton.

OldStars stands for: versatile exercise, being together, vitality, conviviality, involvement and fun. Eight in ten OldStars participants indicate that they also see fellow participants in addition to the training sessions. Nine out of ten participants have also improved conditionally. OldStars has added value both socially and physically.

Older novice badminton players who ‘just start’ or pick up badminton again after a long time are more likely to suffer injuries or fall. That is why minor adjustments are made to the structure of the playing time and the rules. An example is the adjustment of the field, which has been made smaller, making it easier to play a rally, especially if you are less mobile. So everyone can get back to work with OldStars Badminton! Experience with Badminton is not necessary, but make sure you have good indoor shoes.

What does that look like?

What does Badminton Netherlands do?

Badminton Netherlands has chosen OldStars Badminton as a national program for the 65+ target group. Together with the Elderly Fund, Badminton Netherlands provides suitable training methods. Badminton Netherlands also contributes by informing affiliated members and associations about OldStars Badminton. Badminton Netherlands collects applications for the ASM courses and, if there is sufficient interest, organizes the ASM course.

What does the Elderly Fund do?

The Elderly Fund is the driving force behind OldStars. Including OldStars Badminton, there are currently 16 sports actively started with OldStars. From rugby to table tennis and from boxing to running.

Are you as a club interested in starting OldStars Badminton? Please contact the Ouderenfonds for a no-obligation intake interview. If both parties agree to the agreements, the Elderly Fund will provide complete guidance from A to Z.

What opportunities are there for the association/participant?

The most important thing is the support and desire of an association to create offerings for the 65+ target group. The number of retirees is growing, this group needs sports activities during the day. Here lies an opportunity for your association! The Elderly Fund is happy to support you in seizing this opportunity and offers help with getting started. We have now guided more than 700 associations of various sports in this way to become proud OldStars associations.

Do you want to join in as an individual and call yourself an OldStar? Be welcome at the kick-off of an association or join a training. Through this map The Elderly Fund keeps track of where OldStars sports are offered. Is there no suitable association in your area yet? Send an email to [email protected] expressing your wish.

Next steps

OldStars badminton is not yet that big, but the ambition is to start the program at 10 clubs this year. Do you, as an association, want to set up a sports offering for the elderly or receive more information?
