Introducing High School Students to New Sporting Disciplines: The IN MOVEO Tour in Barraute

The IN MOVEO tour stopped at Natagan secondary school in Barraute on Wednesday to introduce students to new sporting disciplines.

This initiative from the Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ) aims to introduce high school students to the pleasure of moving all year round to improve their well-being.

The IN MOVEO caravan team offers the opportunity to experience golf, tennis, football or even baseball thanks to different stations spread throughout their school gymnasium.

We offer things that are not necessarily practiced in physical education classes. We want to get young people moving in a festive and fun environment, in addition to teaching them techniques to perfect their skills.

Diversify the offer at school

Natagan is the 30th school visited by IN MOVEO since the creation of the project two years ago. In addition to receiving the caravan, the school gets $1,000 in sports equipment donations.

By submitting the application to the regional RSEQ authorities, physical education teacher Yann Francoeur sought to diversify the sports offering in the school.

The Student Sports Network hopes that this first contact with certain sports will have an impact on the lifestyle habits of students.

We see this with golf, a sport which requires a lot of technique, but which attracts the curiosity of students, argues Samuel Laplante. They want to see and try. After that, we advise them, we tell them that there are areas not far away where they can go and practice. We lived for years during the pandemic where we couldn’t do anything, where we were immobile. This is the time for young people to have fun and move around.
