Intense Battle for the Ninth League Title: IES La Orden Triumphs Over Rinconada Sevilla

Recreativo IES La Orden fought tirelessly until the end to obtain their ninth League champion cup against a tenacious Rinconada Sevilla, which definitely did not make the task easier

IES La Orden has achieved its ninth League titledeservedly, although not without difficulties in the second leg of the final of the Badminton Clubs Honor Division (Liga Top 10 Iberdrola), facing a Rinconada Sevilla that took them to the limit. The result of 3-4 in the first leg was equaled by the Sevillians, and the champion had to be decided by the total points in the final (439-410 in favor of those from Huelva), since there was also a tie in the sets (24-24).

The victories of IES La Orden in the men’s doubles at the Fernando Martín and of Vivien Sandorhazi against Wei Xu of China in five sets can be attributed both to the two sets that Telma Santos achieved in her last badminton match against Beatriz Corrales, and to the resounding victories for the Hungarian and Pablo Abián in the last individual matches.

Telma Santos took the initiative against Beatriz Corrales in an exciting match. The Portuguese athlete, after losing the first set, achieved an impressive comeback in the next two and almost secured the fourth set, which if she had won, would have avoided any calculation and ensured victory for Huelva, already counting on the triumphs of Pablo Abián and Vivien Sandorhazi. However, despite a favorable score in the fourth set, Corrales came back and forced the fifth. The match could have gone to anyone, but it finally leaned in favor of the Rinconada player (6-11, 11-8, 11-10, 8-11 and 10-11), although Santos had managed to win two sets.

Before the last two individual matches, the accounts were clear. IES La Orden needed to win both matches 3-0, also recovering 17 points. Vivien Sandorhazi’s resounding victory over Laura Molina (11-2, 11-0 and 11-5) allowed the local fans to breathe a sigh of relief and begin to celebrate the title, since Pablo Abián’s victory against Thomas Fourcade was taken for granted. The only requirement for the Bilbao player was not to lose any set, which he achieved, although in the second set he was tied at 7. Finally, Abián won the three desired sets (11-5, 11-7 y 11-1)and thus IES La Orden won its ninth League title.
