Indiana Sports Betting Expands to Include Badminton, Beach Volleyball, and College Wrestling

Hoosiers looking to expand their sports wagering beyond traditional favorites like football, basketball and baseball have three new leagues on which to try their luck.

The Indiana Gaming Commission announced Tuesday that sports books in the Hoosier State can now accept bets on professional badminton, beach volleyball and college wrestling.

Specifically, wagering is permitted on the BWF (badminton) World Tour, the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, and NCAA Division I wrestling, according to the IGC’s Approved Events for Sports Wagering list.

The IGC previously authorized sports betting on men’s and women’s Euro Volley Tournament and NCAA Division I college volleyball.

But this is the first time wagering on non-Olympic badminton and wresting is allowed at Indiana sports books.

Sports wagering operators are not required to offer wagers on the new leagues. Though some may choose to offer multiple betting opportunities on some games or individual events, including in-game wagers.

The new additions bring to 32 the total number of event categories approved for sports wagering in Indiana, ranging from Aussie Rules Football to World Jai-Alai.

Within some categories, however, are even more sports, such as the 25 different Summer Olympic events, including trials, eligible for wagering during the July 26-Aug. 11 Paris games.

The IGC also permits Hoosiers to bet on activities that fall under only the broadest definition of “sport,” such as the July 4 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest and the category winners at the annual Academy Awards honoring excellence in film making.

Adults age 21 and up can visit any of Indiana’s 13 state-regulated casinos, including the four in Northwest Indiana, to see the different types of sports wagering opportunities and place an in-person bet.

Alternatively, Hoosiers can use a computer or mobile device to bet on any IGC authorized sport from anywhere in the state using one of more than a dozen mobile sports wagering operators affiliated with Indiana casinos, including industry leaders DraftKings and FanDuel.
