Ice hockey: KAC forces showdown in the final

The KAC began game number six determined to bring the decider to Klagenfurt. And things went well for the guests with a double blow. After just 79 seconds, Paul Postma made it 1-0 after a quick combination, and just 91 seconds later Matt Fraser made it 2-0. Although Salzburg recorded far more shots on goal at the end of the first third, there was no change in the score for the time being.

In the middle third, shortly after the break, the KAC received their first penalty and almost scored a goal when they were outnumbered. As a result, the Carinthians had several good chances and were closer to 3-0. But the next goal went to the hosts. Ryan Murphy cut the score to 1-2 with a slap shot in the 36th minute.

The “Bulls” started the final third strongly, but KAC goalie Sebastian Dahm stood out several times. And then Canadian Nick Petersen was there. After a nice assist from Jan Mursak, he scored the decisive goal in the 49th minute to make it 3-1. In the midst of the home team’s period of pressure, it was Lukas Haudum who made everything clear for the “Red Jackets” after an individual action with his 26th goal of the season to make it 4-1 in the 57th minute.

“A great game” from the KAC

Haudum wasn’t just happy about his goal. “It was a great game for us, super awesome. I’m extremely proud of the team for starting the match so well. Now we have to go into the seventh game with all positivity,” he said. There are always things that could be done better, but: “Today we cleaned up better in front of our goal and took a good step in the right direction.”

For Salzburg striker Ali Wukovits, the goal made it 3-1. “We were too unfocused.” The early 2-0 deficit didn’t make much of a difference. What was missing was the accuracy and “the consistency to hit the target at the front. We had a lot of chances to add one in the second third, but Klagenfurt are a very good team and they were more callous.”
