Hertha Walheim Women’s Judo Team Faces Tough Challenge in Bundesliga Battle

The initial success whetted our appetite for more. However, the Hertha Walheim women’s judo team will face the elite of the Bundesliga on the second day of the fight. The JC Bottrop will introduce itself on Saturday (6 p.m.) in the sports hall of the Inda-Gymnasium. After the victory over Mönchengladbach/Düsseldorf, “we are going into this fight with great self-confidence,” says Walheim’s coach Jürgen Dominick.

You’ll need some of that too. Because the guests are the declared favorites for this fight and also for the championship title. The Bottrop team is full of athletes who are part of the national squad. The Bottrop coach Frank Urban is also the national coach of the U18/21 women’s team. “It will all be difficult enough for us,” fears Dominick.

Especially since the hosts “have to improvise a lot due to some injuries,” the coach looks ahead. The host team also has to do without Cosima Hoeps. The 48 kilo athlete was invited to a U18 European Cup for the first time and will be missed by her team. Hoeps recently beat the reigning Belgian champions against Gladbach. Nevertheless, Dominick says: “We want to sell ourselves as expensively as possible, even if it will be extremely difficult against this team.”

Jürgen Dominick and his assistant Hannah Brankers will present some new faces compared to the Gladbach team to the (hopefully) numerous spectators. “Hannah and I really pulled out all the stops to bring a powerful team to the mat.” Just like on the first day of the fight, the intention now is to “promote judo sport in Aachen and the surrounding area”.

Jürgen Dominick uses a cross-comparison for the task at hand: “In the first duel, Bottrop beat the team from Witten 11:3.” And Witten is currently number two behind Bottrop in NRW women’s judo. Coach Dominick says it with a wink: “We would like to work on that in the medium term.”
