The German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd incorporates Valencia as “its third hub” in connections with the port of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) starting this April. Thus, it will be included in its feeder line with the Red Sea from which Tanger Med is eliminated.

Specifically, Valencia enters the JDX service, which until now rotated between the ports of Tanger Med (Morocco) – which acted as a hub in the western Mediterranean -, Damietta (Egypt) and the Saudi area. This service has also been expanded to Northern Europe this week, with the inclusion of the Belgian hub of Antwerp-Bruges (Antwerp-Bruges), an addition that would have resulted in the end of stops in Tangier, always according to Alphaliner. The route runs through the Mediterranean and crosses the Suez Canal to enter and exit the Red Sea, without entering the area affected by the Houthi attacks, in the Gulf of Aden. The stopover in Valencia would only be made on the way east, after the departure in Belgium, but not on the return rotation.

The service has a total duration of five weeks and is operated by three vessels, although two more vessels are expected to be introduced in the coming weeks. The capacities of the deployed fleet would be in a range between 2,500 and 2,800 teus per ship. The first stopover in the Valencian port will be made by the ‘HSL Nike’, on April 7, according to current forecasts.
