Handball: the Blues end their preparation camp with a narrow victory against Romania

The Blues provided the essentials. Very large winners of Latvia (53-9) last Sunday, the French suffered more this Sunday against Romania in this friendly match. Jostled, the French handball team still won (30-28), taking advantage of several temporary exclusions of the Romanians in the final minutes.

The Olympic preparation of Olivier Krumbholz’s players is therefore ending well. Having just spent a week in Auvergne, with this friendly match in Clermont-Ferrand as the highlight, the Blues can now calmly concentrate on defending their title at the Olympic Games. However, they have a few points to correct. Facing a Romanian team not qualified for the Olympics, and which the French had always beaten since 2011, the performance was less convincing than against Latvia.

The victory, the 23rd in a row, is however there. But it leaves a slightly bitter taste. “We are a little hungry,” admitted Estelle Nze Minko at the microphone of BeIN Sports. Of course we win, it’s still a hard match, but the match doesn’t really reflect what we worked on and what we wanted to show this evening. We spent two weeks together in training, we worked hard but we didn’t manage to put it together this evening. There is a bit of disappointment, even if it was important to win this match in the end. » There are just over 100 days left to rectify the situation.
