Guggenberg Legionnaires Dominate Home Games with Two Wins

Two games, two wins: The Guggenberg Legionnaires turned Saturday into a home run festival and finished Game 2 against the Mainz Athletics 11-1 after just seven innings.

Pretty perfect start to the home game for the Guggenberg Legionnaires. After the clear win against Mainz on Friday evening, Regensburg went one better on Saturday. Thanks to two home runs and Scott Harkin’s continued clean slate, the game was over against the Athletics after just seven innings. The decisive hit with which Edoardo Cornelli created the necessary ten-point gap came from ex-Mainz player Marlon Jimenez Ramos. As a little goodie, manager Martin Helmig’s team also took the lead in the table.

Harkin continues to not allow any runs

The Shark, aka Scott Harkin, also bit hard in his second game for Regensburg. Five innings, three hits, five strike outs and zero runs are on the scoring sheet for the American this time.

This time Juan Martin fared better than last weekend in Heidenheim. However, he allowed the only point for Mainz through a walk with the bases occupied. There is still room for improvement for the young pitcher. The lid on the game was put on Saturday by Pascal Amon, who slipped into the pitcher role.

Ramirez and Sacasa with home runs

The national team outfielder was allowed to take a pretty relaxed stroll onto the mound. Regensburg had previously made sure of this on the offensive. Devon Ramirez in particular was unstoppable on Saturday. He also collected three RBI with a home run, double and single and came home twice himself.

Antonio Torres was once again strong as usual, and the young Italian Edoardo Cornelli had his say with two hits.

Nino Sacasa contributed the second home run of the day, this time at first base. Overall, the Legionnaires are very flexible, especially on defense. Matt Vance and Devon Ramirez, for example, were already in various positions in the infield and outfield.

The team gives a good impression on the first matchdays, the mix seems to be right. We can build on this for the rest of the season.
