Grizzlies Win XVIII Cameroni Trophy in Triangular Tournament

The triangular tournament ended with a victory each for the three teams: Settimo Torionese prevailed 6-5 in the tiebreak against the Grizzlies, then Torino beat Milan 9-6 and the rossoblù made up for it 6-2 against Settimo . The Grizzlies thus won the tournament on points difference. Milan paid for an unfortunate inning (the first against Torino), but then played good baseball for another 17. The youngsters did well

The XVIII Cameroni Trophy ends up with the team that started it by losing. The triangular formula in fact allows Torino, defeated in the first match 6-5 by Settimo Torinese, to get back into the running by beating Milan 9-6 in the second match and to win the tournament thanks to the points difference, i.e. taking advantage of Milan’s victory on Settimo (6-2) in the third match.

For Fraschetti’s boys, a thrilling start and then a day of crescendo. Handicap start, because in the match against the Grizzlies, after taking a 2-0 lead, the rossoblù immediately suffered 8 points in an inning, with Varalda struggling to get into the game and suffering Turin’s bats beyond what was permitted. But then the rossoblù pitcher adjusted himself and in fact in the following two innings he no longer suffered anything. But now the accumulated disadvantage becomes difficult to recover, even if Milan progressively reduces the distance, finishing at 9-6 for the Piedmontese. On the mountain, after Varalda, Dall’Agnese (much better than a week ago in Codogno) and the promising Persico go up and concede very little to the Illuminati team.

In the third match against Settimo Torinese, Milan must win with a 6-point lead in order to close the gap on the Grizzlies. Fraschetti fields the Cuban Cueto as a starter and the boy from Villa Clara puts the game on hold by freezing the guests’ clubs. Milan can thus take a 3-0 lead and after Cueto it’s up to Pizzi, Polo and Morillo, but the Settimo scores 2 points which nullify the rossoblù’s pursuit, even if Pasotto and his teammates score another 3 points, but the final assault does not enough to close the gap to Torino who thus wins by points difference. For the Grizzlies this is the first success in the Trophy which returns to Turin 17 years after Juve’s victory in the first edition, in the final against the Grizzlies.

For Milan, apart from that damned first inning of the first match, a crescendo Sunday with the first victory of the season against a team in the same category. The pitchers still performed well overall, while the youngsters Samuele Pasotto and Ale Garavaglia were appreciated in attack, with the first hit being noted on his first team debut for Michele Bettola. Even in defence, all things considered, a sufficient performance.
