Graham Potter will not become Ajax’s new coach. The Englishman is said to have rejected Ajax’s offer. The currently unemployed coach was explicitly linked with a switch to the fallen superpower, but according to The Telegraph himself has pulled the plug on the negotiations.

Alex Kroes, the club’s suspended general manager, reportedly recommended the Englishman to other decision-makers. A meeting is said to have recently taken place between agent office Wasserman and representatives of Ajax. The negotiations are said to have gone well, but despite this, Potter has decided to reject Ajax. The coach is also in the picture at Manchester United as a possible successor to Erik ten Hag.

Potter has been unemployed since April 2, 2023, when he was fired as Chelsea manager. The Londoners had appointed the 48-year-old selector in September as a replacement for Thomas Tuchel. After impressive performances at Brighton & Hove Albion, the Blues decided to pay no less than seventeen million euros to bring Potter to Stamford Bridge. However, his performances were not stable either and after a 0-2 defeat against Aston Villa he was dismissed.

After the departure of Erik ten Hag, several trainers have tried to imitate the success of the current Manchester United trainer without success. Alfred Schreuder, who was an assistant under Ten Hag, was appointed head coach after his departure. He was released on January 26 and the club management decided to put the inexperienced John Heitinga in his place. However, he was also unable to get Ajax on track and the club therefore finished in third place. Then-director of football affairs Sven Mislintat then decided to put Maurice Steijn in front of the group. Under the Hague coach, Ajax had its worst start to the season ever and the club was even last in the Eredivisie.
