April 12, 2024, 9:12 p.m

The GISA Lions MBC has improved significantly after the defeat in the first game against ALBA Berlin. In the end it wasn’t enough for a win. The second game in the capital was also lost with 56:65 (9:18, 19:15, 12:14, 16:18). All in all, the performance gave us courage for the decisive game three on Sunday in Weißenfels.

As in the first game, the first quarter went pretty wrong from the Lions’ perspective. Lots of turnovers, hardly any rhythm on offense and no luck in throwing led to a quick deficit. Only the free throws kept the MBC in the game in this phase and so it went into the first quarter break with 9:18. It wasn’t until the middle of the second period that the guests finally found their way into the game. Robertson made the first successful three-pointer and the defense was finally able to force a few stops.

The deficit, which had already grown to twelve points, continued to shrink and shortly before halftime the Lions were down to four points. It finally went into the locker room at 27:33.

Turnovers decide the game

The MBC came back from the locker room as the better team and managed to equalize the game at 35:35 within a few minutes. However, the guests failed to continue this run and take control of the game. Alba was then able to pull away again and the score went into the final quarter at 47:40.

It was mainly the turnovers that destroyed all of the Lions’ chances at the back. In total, the MBC lost the ball 26 times – simply too much for a win against strong Berliners. The guests always had a sniff of the lead, but were ultimately never able to take the decisive step. In the end it was a 56:65 defeat, but it definitely gives us hope for the upcoming game on Sunday in Weißenfels.
