Get Ready for Baseball Season: Altdorf Ballpark Prepares for First Home Game

– The first home game is approaching, the new venue at the middle school is almost finished. To make it easier for those interested to get started with the sport, there will be an information event in advance.

A lot has happened on the sports field at the Altdorf middle school in the last few weeks: With a lot of effort and effort from the players of the Icesharks baseball team, the area was transformed into a multifunctional playing field and is now ready for the Ice-sharks’ first baseball season will start here in May.

Only the safety fence is still missing in the Altdorf Ballpark and the lines on the field still have to be installed. All four bases, the running lanes and the sanctuary, the pitcher’s mound, shine brightly in the freshly laid turf.

Baseball has been a department of TV 1881 Altdorf since the beginning of the year. Team A, which plays in the North regional class, will play its first home game in the ballpark on May 9th (Ascension Day) from 2 p.m. and thus ceremoniously inaugurate the field. Altdorf’s mayor Martin Tabor will personally take over the symbolic first throw, the so-called first pitch.

Admission to the event is free, and there will be cool drinks and a food truck with burgers and other American specialties. Spectators are asked to bring their own folding chairs if possible. In general, the home games are moderated and flyers with short explanations of the rules are distributed. Participants will also be available to answer questions during the game.

In the USA, baseball is one of the most popular traditional sports; across the country it is practiced as a popular sport from early childhood onwards and fills huge stadiums at professional games. Physical abilities such as speed, coordination and motor skills are addressed as well as mental and strategic qualities.

The Icesharks were founded in 2006 by Kurt Moser, who hoped that the move from Eismannsberg to Altdorf would generate more public interest and, above all, more young talent. In addition to the adult team, the Ice-sharks have youth team B (twelve to 15 years old), which plays in the state league. On Friday, April 26th, there will be a free information event in the TV 1881 sports restaurant (Heumannstr. 5) at 5 p.m. where the rules will be explained simply and clearly. Immediately afterwards, the young players will demonstrate practical examples on the sports field next door.
