There could be a new, umpteenth, revolution at management level at Milan at the end of the current football season. In fact, the position of Giorgio Furlani, current CEO of the Rossoneri club and Cardinale’s strongman after the dismissal of Maldini and Massara last summer, would be in the balance. As reported by TMW, the strong name for Furlani’s succession would be that of Damien Comolli, current president of Toulouse.
Furthermore, the paths between Comolli and RedBird have already crossed given that Toulouse was purchased by the fund chaired by Gerry Cardinale in 2020, also leading it to victory in the French Cup. Obviously Furlani would not, in this hypothetical scenario, be removed as happened with Maldini and Massara but he would take on an administrative and more behind the scenes role. The ratings are underway but Comolli has always been a name in RedBird’s thoughts.
On Comolli, the possible new CEO of the Rossoneri club, there is a sensational background story linked to Liverpool reported by TMW:
“Billy Beane is the man who created the Moneyball project and is the historic advisor of the Rossoneri ownership. Curiosity: he is an Arsenal fan as he was won over by Comolli’s methodology in player recruitment. It was Beane himself who suggested to FGS the arrival of the French manager, whose adventure however did not turn out in the best way but which was the basis for building the winning cycle, years later, of Jurgen Klopp. This is why RedBird wanted Comolli’s method also in Toulouse, an analysis approach promoted in results and facts by the transalpine company”.
A method that Cardinale would now like to see re-proposed also at Milan to give continuity to a project that has been bearing excellent fruit in recent years.
In all of this, Stefano Pioli’s future obviously still needs to be decided. As reported by Tuttosport, the coach is making great strides towards staying for next season too, the last one established by the current contract.
However, starting the season when it expires, even if it should be remembered that it is a peculiarity of the American mentality, may not be exactly appropriate. Cardinale would have promised the coach that in the event of victory in the Europa League the contract will be renewed until 2026. Comolli permitting.
