A year ago, José María Bisbal was left in a wheelchair after a spinal cord injury. Now he has recovered his smile thanks to Paralympic badminton

These days marks one year since the disappearance of David Bisbal’s brother, José María. For 30 hours, the Civil Guard searched for him by land, sea and air, to finally find him alive in Roquetas de Mar, Almería, his homeland. At that time, David Bisbal said that his brother was “hospitalized but stable,” he asked for privacy and nothing else was reported, but months later it was made public that José María had suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of that disappearance and was in Wheelchair. Today, José María has given an example of improvement, as he has become a champion of parabadminton, the Paralympic variety of racket sport.

After his injury, José María was admitted to the National Hospital for Paraplegics in Toledo for five months. And from then on he dedicated himself body and soul to the sport. He trains daily, he has already participated in several tournaments and has joined the Spanish Badminton Federation. David, meanwhile, supports his brother’s career one hundred percent. “He is currently in love with badminton and has found a brutal vocation,” he said during a visit to the Toledo hospital where his brother was admitted.
