French Tennis Player Arthur Cazaux Injures Ankle in Return to Competition: A Setback Ahead of Roland-Garros

Returning to competition for the first time since his illness in Miami, Arthur Cazaux injured his ankle in the first set against the Italian Matteo Arnaldi, this Monday at the Barcelona tournament. A big problem just over a month before Roland-Garros.

Bad luck does not leave Arthur Cazaux. While he returned to competition for the first time since his terrifying malaise in Miami on March 18, the Frenchman had to throw in the towel in the first set against the Italian Matteo Arnaldi, this Monday at the tournament of Barcelona.

At 5-5 in the first round, at the end of a slide, Cazaux’s ankle gets stuck in the clay and turns. The French tennis player, 75th in the ATP ranking, immediately felt the pain and remained on the ground for a few moments. He ends up getting up and returning to his chair, limping very low. He is then unable to resume the match.

His ankle is terribly swollen

A little later, Cazaux published a photo on his X account. The condition of his ankle, considerably swollen, does not bode well for Roland-Garros, which begins in a little over a month (on May 20). “I will keep you informed of developments in the situation…”, indicates the main person concerned on his social networks.

Eighth finalist at the Australian Open in January, Cazaux had launched his 2024 season perfectly. After having a series of injuries at the start of his career (an abdominal tear in 2021 then pubalgia which kept him away from the courts for eight months in 2022), he finally seemed ready to string together great performances.

On March 18, against his compatriot Harold Mayot, he suffered illness on the court due to the high heat that reigned in Miami (30 degrees, 70% humidity). The Montpellier resident was then quickly treated by a doctor before being evacuated on a wheelchair, then hospitalized.

“I tried to move towards my chair and as I felt that I was going a little, I wanted to squat down and I fell. I rewatched the videos several times because my fall, I didn’t remember don’t remember, he told L’Equipe shortly after. When I’m on the ground, I don’t have too many memories of the discussions I had with the doc. spirit was there but I no longer felt my body at all. I had difficulty answering his questions because I no longer even felt my lips, it was very strange. A little over a month after this incident, fate decided to take its course.
