French Players Shine in First Round of European Badminton Championships: Rosy Oktavia PANCASARI and Léonice HUET Impress

For this first day of competition, only the first round of the men’s and women’s singles, corresponding to the 32nd finals, was played in Saarbrücken. On the tricolor side, it was Rosy Oktavia PANCASARI (n°86) and Léonice HUET (n°69) who opened the ball.

Facing the Belgian Clara LASSAUX (n°157), Rosy plays her game, always staying one step ahead of her opponent. For her first European Championships, the player from Strasbourg, slightly stressed, can take a breather. She wins 21/14 21/16. In the next round on Wednesday, she will meet Switzerland’s Jenjira STADELMANN (n°66), whom she already faced in Ireland in 2023. The confrontation between the two players turned in favor of Switzerland after 3 sets.

Rosy PANCASARI : “These are my first European Championships, at the beginning I was stressed and I had difficulty adapting to the field. Now I feel good. I’m happy.”

Léonice follows after her compatriot. Quickly summoned to court 3, while she was supposed to play on court 2, the Frenchwoman accelerated her warm-up to meet Heli NEIMAN (n°142, Israel). The match starts timidly, but Léonice takes control. Alternating tense clearances and changes of pace, the Chambly player puts pressure on the Israeli, with an 8/0 to start the second set. The Frenchwoman maintains the pace and wins 21/17 21/15. On Wednesday, she will meet the Polish Wiktoria DABCZYNSKA (n°124), against whom she has already won 3 times.

Léonice HAS: “One of the keys was to find the length of the baseline to try to attack him with tight clearances. Despite this, there were length errors. Another key was to maintain the attack and put pressure on him because “She’s quite tall, we had to change the rhythms and make her bend down quite often.”

In women’s singles, QI Xuefei (No. 56) completes the French trio. Exempted from the 32nd finals, the Breton will play the 16th finals against Kristin KUUBA (n°51, Estonia), for a match which promises to be thrilling. If the two players are close in the rankings, Feifei has already won in their 4 confrontations, the last one being in 2022.
