French Basketball Star Maxime Raynaud Commits to Another Year at Stanford University

Maxime Raynaud had left doubt surrounding his future NCAA destination by declaring his entry into the transfer portal. But Stanford University finally announced that the Frenchman will still be red and white next year.

Raynaud, an NCAA resident since 2021, played three seasons in the Stanford racket and revealed himself as one of the most promising young French people of his generation. At just 21 years old, he is coming off his most prolific career season on an individual level.

Author of 15.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2 assists at 57% shooting including 36% behind the arc, the pivot has particularly stood out in recent months. He notably signed a career record of 29 points including 5/6 from the parking lot in February. His versatility at 2m16 makes him an intriguing specimen, and we recall that he was elected MIP and a member of the Pac-12 Second Team this season.

Maxime Raynaud makes no secret of it, his goal is to one day join the NBA. He is counting on a fourth and final year of university to prepare for the big leap. Among Stanford alumni in the NBA, we can cite the Lopez brothers (Brook and Robin), Dwight Powell or more recently Ziaire Williams.

After a disappointing season in terms of results (penultimate in the Pac-12 Conference and very far from March Madness), the Cardinal changed coaches. Kyle Smith, recently elected coach of the year in the conference, left Washington State to settle down in California and will be in charge of the Frenchman next season.

“I have had time to reflect since the end of the season, and I realized that there is no better place for me than here, at Stanford, to continue my basketball journey.”
