Franziska Schlögl Shines with Second Place Finish at Junior European Cup in Poznan

Franziska Schlögl (-63/Judozentrum Krems/Lower Austria) achieved her best result to date at international level with second place at the Junior European Cup in Poznan, Poland. A year ago, the 18-year-old from Lower Austria was on the podium once with third place in Malaga (ESP). Schlögl only had to admit defeat to Lior Shmuel (ISR) with Waza-ari in the final. On the way to the final, number 51 in the junior world rankings defeated Wiktoria Witkowska (POL), Lenka Tomankova (SVK) and Sara-Joy Bauer (GER) each with ippon.

Emily Starzer (-63/Askö Reichraming/OÖ) achieved her second seventh place this year (after Amadia/POR in March). The 18-year-old from Upper Austria lost in the quarterfinals to eventual winner Lior Shmuel after a fight time of 6:20 minutes in the Golden Score with Waza-ari. The second defeat came against Vilda Backlund (SWE) in the repechage. Starzer recorded her three successes against Suus Riddering (NED), Uldana Tanzharykova (KAZ) and Gabriela Pietrzak (POL).
