Frank van Mosselveld will be the new director of FC Groningen as of July 1. The current director of RKC Waalwijk succeeds the departing Wouter Gudde in the Euroborg.

After seven years as director in Waalwijk, 40-year-old Van Mosselveld signs a contract for five seasons in Groningen, which is third in the first division.

At Groningen, the current director, Gudde, decided last November that he was leaving. This is because he received a lot of criticism after the club’s relegation and the continued poor results in the first half of this season in the first division. He did decide to stay on until the end of the season.

‘Hopefully Groningen and RKC in the Premier League’

His successor Van Mosselveld has a long history in Waalwijk. Before he took up a management position, the former defender played in the RKC first team for almost ten years. In total, Van Mosselveld played almost 300 matches in professional football.

Now he is going to work as a director at a club where he has no past. “Although FC Groningen is currently playing at a lower level, I see a club with enormous potential and history. I want to contribute to bringing the club back to the level where it belongs.”

Van Mosselveld may be taking a step back from the Premier League to the First Division with his switch. But perhaps in a few months it will turn out to be the other way around.

Under the leadership of trainer Dick Lukkien, FC Groningen still has a prospect of promotion. RKC still has to avoid relegation. “Hopefully both RKC and FC Groningen will play in the Premier League next season,” says Van Mosselveld.
