found the horse, it’s called Society Man

Dettori he will be on horseback, which comes naturally to him as Frankie is the best jockey in the world, even on May 4th in Kentucky Derby. It’s the race for which he said he had postponed the self-retirement he had planned for 2023 (but be careful: Royal Ascot is in June and the extension could be prolonged, because the royal meeting is an irresistible temptation) .

INSIGHTS

Days ago, after a victory at Keeneland, also in Kentucky, jumping out of the saddle, “as usual”, from Beaute Cachée with whom he had won despite being offered at odds of 26 to 1, he said «I’m here to sell myself, I’m looking for a horse for the Derby”. He should have found it: It’s called Society Man who, however, is far from favorite: he will drop in price when the announcement of the partnership with Frankie becomes official, but first he is offered at 101 to 1. Society Man is trainer Danny Gargan’s second horse, the stable number one is Dornoch. Frankie has never won the Kentucky Derby (he ran it once) and for someone who has done all the great races in the world, apart from the July Cup in Newmarket and the Melbourne Cup in Australia, it is a “gap”.

Difficult to fill it with Society Man, but at least he can try. Especially since the great American classic is in its 150th edition and the prize has been raised to 5 million dollars. However, he will not be able to make use of one of the many champions of trainer Bob Baffert, to whom Dettori refers in America: due to doping issues, Kentucky is forbidden to horses trained by Baffert. Frankie won’t be the only Italian jockey if he succeeds: Antonio Fresu will certainly be involved, also a Sardinian who emigrated to the States, who will ride Stronghold, with whom Dery won the Santa Anita, beating Dettori on the day that Frankie won 6 out of 7 races, and this was the seventh. Stronghold is offered betting at 35 to 1, while the favorites are Sierra Leone and Fierceness. A third Italian jockey could be competing at Churchill Downs: it is Umberto Rispoli riding Endlessy if the latter’s trainer, Michael McCarthy, were to choose this engagement for his thoroughbred.
