Fortuna Düsseldorf sets itself apart from Hamburger SV

Fortuna Düsseldorf won again and gave SV Wehen Wiesbaden their next setback in the bottom of the table. Coach Daniel Thioune’s team won 2-0 (0-0) against the Hessians in the second Bundesliga on Saturday thanks to goals from Shinta Appelkamp (13th minute) and Isak Johannesson (64th).

After the fifth win in a row, Fortuna is four points ahead of the Hanseatic League in third place ahead of Sunday’s game (1.30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the 2nd Bundesliga and on Sky) against Hamburger SV in Magdeburg. In front of 11,200 spectators, the hosts in Wiesbaden had to play with one man less from the 35th minute onwards because Hyun-ju Lee was shown the red card.

The midfielder hit Yannik Engelhardt in the calf. SVWW coach Markus Kauczinski was terribly upset about the sending off and was given a yellow card for it. After their fourth defeat in a row, his team is slipping ever deeper into the relegation battle.

In a first half that was poor in highlights, Düsseldorf took the lead through a shot from Appelkamp. The guests were then lucky that Tim Oberdorf was able to clear a header from Ivan Prtajin in front of the line (28th). After Johannesson’s 2-0, the harmless Wiesbaden team were finally defeated.

Advancement is hardly possible for Karlsruhe

Karlsruher SC didn’t get beyond a 1-1 (1-1) draw at SC Paderborn and therefore has little chance of promotion to the Bundesliga. Igor Matanovic’s goal (26th minute) secured the draw. Sirlord Conteh (21st) had previously shot Paderborn into the lead when KSC was outnumbered. Shortly beforehand, David Herold was injured and had to be substituted later.

After 29 games, the Baden team is now nine points behind the relegation promotion spot. Paderborn remains in no man’s land in the table with 40 points.

After a strong second division game before the break, the second half was without many highlights. KSC coach Christian Eichner tried again with three changes a quarter of an hour before the end and, among others, brought in former national player Lars Stindl. However, the guests were no longer rewarded for this.

Holstein Kiel’s first promotion to the Bundesliga is becoming increasingly likely. Coach Marcel Rapp’s team clearly won 4-0 (2-0) against bottom-placed VfL Osnabrück on Saturday and took the lead in the table, at least for one day.

However, FC St. Pauli can overtake Kiel again with a win against Elversberg on Sunday. After two recent wins, Osnabrück showed an overall weak performance and remains in 18th place, still six points behind the relegation place.

Kiel dominated the game at will in front of 15,034 spectators in the sold-out Holstein Stadium. Before the break, Steven Skrzybski (9th minute) and Philipp Sander (38th) gave the hosts a deserved lead. After the break, Timo Becker (76th) and Alexander Bernhardsson (84th) increased for the strong Kiel team, for whom it was their fifth win in a row without conceding a goal.
