Mislintat before returning to Borussia Dortmund

His success as a BVB scout with his eye for talents such as Aubameyang, Dembélé and Kagawa earned him the reputation as a “diamond eye”. Now Sven Mislintat is probably returning to his old place of work. It is unclear what role he could take on in Dortmund.
An era will end in Dortmund in autumn 2025. Hans-Joachim Watzke, who has shaped BVB over the past 20 years, will step down from Borussia’s management. “It was always important to me that it would be a self-determined exit. It was a long time,” said Watzke. He is very grateful to the club. “I consider it a great privilege. I will do my job with full enthusiasm and energy until the last day,” said Watzke.
The 64-year-old will leave a big gap at BVB. It is still unclear who will follow in Watzke’s footsteps as CEO. Since Watzke publicly announced his resignation, there has been speculation in Dortmund about the restructuring of the club’s top management.

The plan is for the 64-year-old to hand over overall sporting responsibility by June 30, 2024, before he ends his role as managing director in autumn 2025. Sebastian Kehl is considered the new sports director. His previous position as sports director could go to Sven Mislintat.
Mislintat knows BVB very well
According to media reports, Sven Mislintat is about to return to Borussia Dortmund. As the “Ruhr Nachrichten” and “Sky” report, an agreement between the former BVB chief scout, who worked for Borussia from 2006 to 2017, is expected to be reached in the coming days. Accordingly, there are only small things left to clarify between him and the club. It remains unclear for the time being whether the 51-year-old will be a sports director for the fourth-place team, as he was previously at VfB Stuttgart or at Ajax Amsterdam.

Mislintat worked at VfB Stuttgart as sports director until 2022 and then had a four-month interlude as technical director at top Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam. Mislintat has been without a club since last September.
