The former Bundesliga basketball team BBC Bayreuth has found a head coach for the coming season. The Upper Franconians are bringing Florian Wedell into the 2nd league, as the club announced on Thursday. The 32-year-old was active in FC Bayern’s youth team for a decade before becoming assistant coach at Danish first division club Bakken Bears in 2022. From there, the native of Lower Saxony goes to Bayreuth, where he receives a two-year contract. Wedell succeeds Mladen Drijencic, who is returning to his old club EWE Baskets Oldenburg and will work with the youth team there.
