Fernand-Lefebvre Secondary School’s Juvenile Women’s Basketball Team Wins Montérégie Regional Championship

(Sorel-Tracy school service center) – Sunday April 7, in St-Hyacinthe, the Montérégie regional basketball championship took place. The juvenile women’s team won their last match 48-19 against Beloeil, giving them access to the semi-final.

The representatives of the Fernand-Lefebvre secondary school, 3rd of the season, were to face the Varennes Dynamos. During the season, the Polypus had a record of one victory and one defeat against this team.

Already in the first quarter, the women’s team had taken a 20-1 lead. During the game, our players demonstrated great team spirit. The work well executed in the first half allowed our representatives to win and advance to the final.

Our Polypus faced the best youth team in the league, the Centennial Chargers. Having never managed to win a victory against this team during the regular season, the girls of France Lanoie and Paule Brouillard had to give everything on the field and bring new strategies to counter the reigning champions.

At the start of the 4th quarter, all hopes were high, because the score was very close. The team cohesion and the progress of each player during the season allowed our local team, on a free throw at 0:09 seconds on the board, to tie the score 33 to 33.

During the 3 minutes of overtime, the green and orange team doubled their efforts and thanks to a very efficient passing game and well-considered decisions from the players, they won the more than thrilling duel by a score of 45 to 38.

Named regional champion, the juvenile team will travel to Carleton-sur-Mer from April 12 to 14 to represent our school at the Provincial championship.
