Defending champion Fenerbahçe joined Villeneuve-d’Ascq in the final of the women’s Euroleague basketball after having dismissed the other Turkish club Mersin (89-80) at home on Friday in the half.
Under a deluge of decibels and even in front of a few scuffles in the stands, Fenerbahce did not offer a repeat of last year’s final when the Istanbulites pulverized their Anatolian rivals (99-60).
The final on Sunday (6:00 p.m.) will offer a clash of French technicians since the Istanbul club is coached by Valérie Garnier, former coach of the Bleues (2013-2021) bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, where Villeneuvois coach Rachid Meziane was her assistant .
