FC Bayern, News: Lots of encouragement for Dayot Upamecano

A bad pass by the French international in front of his own goal when the score was 1-0 (89th) gave Luca Waldschmidt a shot chance, which Eric Dier thwarted. The rebound landed at Steffen Tigges, who was denied by goalkeeper Sven Ulreich. Shortly afterwards (90th + 3) Thomas Müller decided the game.
“That was of course a mistake that luckily wasn’t punished because Ulle reacted really well,” said Freund about Upamecano’s misfire, which is part of a whole series of mistakes made by the 25-year-old this season. Upamecano has therefore long since lost his regular place.
“Of course there are too many individual mistakes at the moment, they decide the games at the highest level,” said Tuchel. However, “we know his potential and know about his qualities and huge ambition.”
There is “no reason to keep putting your finger in the wound.” After all, it could be that Upamecano “has to go in to secure a big success for us” in the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League against Arsenal on Wednesday (9 p.m.).
