FC Bayern Munich’s Basketball Team Falls Short in Euroleague Play-ins

The Bundesliga basketball players from FC Bayern Munich missed the play-ins in the Euroleague early. The German cup winner lost his last home game in the main round against Panathinaikos Athens 75:82 (36:40).

The end of table 15. On the international stage, it was already clear before the final siren: Tenth-placed Anadolu Efes Istanbul triumphed in the city derby at Fenerbahce with 82:80 (32:36) and would therefore have been uncatchable for the Munich team even if they were successful.

Last game against AS Monaco

The hosts’ top scorers in front of 6,500 fans in the sold-out BMW Park were Nick Weiler-Babb with 15 and Serge Ibaka with 14 points. For the Greeks, Kendrick Nunn led the ranking with 17 points, ahead of Juancho Hernangomez (14).

Although Munich’s failure in the continental competition was already sealed in the distance during the fourth quarter, coach Pablo Laso’s team continued to fight with great will to offer the home crowd something positive. In the middle of the last period, Bayern regained the lead that they had lost through minor negligence before the break despite a strong defense. But in the end the favorite turned up the heat again and prevented a surprise.

The remaining final game on April 11th against top team AS Monaco no longer has any sporting value for the Munich team. On Sunday they continue in the Bundesliga, where they await the Lions from Braunschweig as league leaders.
