FC Barcelona’s Efforts to Convince Xavi to Stay Beyond Current Season

FC Barcelona does not despair of convincing its coach Xavi to continue the adventure beyond the current season. While the 44-year-old technician announced his upcoming departure in January, President Joan Laporta and his leaders are doing everything they can to encourage him to stay, through public declarations or private interviews with sports director Deco. Efforts appreciated by the former midfielder but for the moment in vain according to the daily Mundo Deportivo, which explains this Tuesday that Xavi will only consider staying on condition of obtaining big signings to “improve his team” during the transfer window summer.

The Culé coach would notably demand the signing of a defensive midfielder with the profile of Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad) or Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), as well as a more creative midfielder like Bernardo Silva (Manchester City). High demands but considered necessary by the Catalan to continue the adventure. In the event of separation, Barça has already targeted several profiles including that of Ruben Amorim (see the 10:42 a.m. news), the coach of Sporting Portugal.
