The Fatherland Innovation Party, which was founded just over a month ago, caused a ‘proportional sensation’ in the general election. Cho Kuk himself, who was cornered by the dismissal of his professorship at Seoul National University, the arrest of his spouse, and the cancellation of his children’s academic credentials, is expected to continue his intense ‘sniping’ against the Yoon Seok-yeol government as he enters the National Assembly.

Immediately after the results of the exit polls of the three broadcasting companies were announced, which showed that the party would win up to 14 seats, Cho Kuk, the leader of the Fatherland Innovation Party, said, “The people’s livelihood, diplomacy, and democracy have been ruined over the past two years,” and “I will propose the Han Dong-hoon Special Prosecutor Act as soon as the party opens.” .

Representative Cho has increased his level of criticism of the Yoon Seok-yeol government throughout the general election period. Representative Cho also appealed for support for the opposition party on the 9th, the day before the election, saying, “If the pan-opposition party secures 200 seats and the ‘Kim Kun-hee Special Prosecutor Act’ is passed, we will see Kim Kun-hee stand in court in the second half of the year.”

He also emphasized neutralizing the Yoon government. Representative Cho emphasized, “Once we have 200 seats, we can pass the bill even if President Yoon exercises his veto, so there will be no need for a veto,” and added, “The first thing we need to do is reject President Yoon’s veto.”

As the Fatherland Innovation Party progresses, attention is also focused on the possibility of realizing the promises made by the party if it gains a casting vote for ‘200 pan-opposition seats’.

The Fatherland Innovation Party’s first pledge was to complete prosecution reform, mentioning the complete separation of investigation and prosecution, protection of human rights of suspects, strengthening of the High-ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Office, and direct election of prosecutors. If a pan-opposition coalition is formed with the Democratic Party of Korea, there is a high possibility of securing enough seats to enable constitutional amendments. In fact, the Fatherland Innovation Party announced that it would push for the establishment of a special committee of the National Assembly immediately after the opening of the 22nd National Assembly to revise the Constitution and present mid- to long-term goals.

Pledges related to energy and finance were also made. A Deputy Prime Minister-level Ministry of Climate and Energy will be established and the proportion of renewable energy will be increased to 30% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. The Ministry of Strategy and Finance separates the budget portion and grants autonomy in budget preparation to each ministry.
