Göttingen. The mood in the Sparkasse Arena on Sunday afternoon at BG Göttingen’s home game against Würzburg Baskets was extremely good despite the 67:75 defeat. The Veilchen fans loudly supported their team, especially the Veilchen-Power fan club in the fan block. BG coach Olivier Foucart had also relied on the fans as an energizer before the game.

Shortly before the game began, the BG Göttingen fan club pulled a banner over part of the standing room – a cooperation between Veilchen-Power and the Göttinger Tageblatt. The words “Always at your side” were emblazoned in bright white letters on a background of blue and purple – so the color of the newspaper could be seen together with the color of the violets. “Above all, we want to emphasize our shared support for the team,” said Christian Zigenhorn, board member of the fan club.

Exclusive raffle in the Sparkasse Arena

The game on Sunday was presented by the Tageblatt, and so there were even more extras on the field and in the stands. For example, an exclusive raffle in the hall: Anyone who scanned the QR code on the boards or on the digital board could, with a bit of luck, have a “meet and greet” – a meeting – with the BG players Mathis Mönninghoff and David DeJulius Win a training visit.

The ASC Göttingen cheerleaders wore T-shirts sponsored by Tageblatt during their show.

The circle in the middle of the field was also adorned with the Tageblatt logo, which the ASC Göttingen cheerleaders also wore on their T-shirts during their performances. To decide who was allowed to play the halftime game, the mascot Zuffi threw blue Tageblatt Frisbees into the stands. Lia and Felix caught the Frisbees and shot baskets at each other during halftime, with Felix scoring twice and winning the halftime game.

At the BG Göttingen home game, Felix and Lia caught the Frisbee discs from the Göttinger Tageblatt and were allowed to take part in the half-time game.

Despite the good atmosphere in the hall, the BG lost to the Würzburgers 67:75 after an exciting game. “I’m still proud of the team,” said BG fan Tobias Hunold after his team’s defeat. Markus Fitsch was a bit disappointed with the end result: “The defense was strong, but we weren’t that good in attack. As always, it was the third quarter,” said the 51-year-old BG fan. But despite everything, he is also proud of the team.
