F1 owner Liberty Media also took over MotoGP

The Formula 1 rights holder Liberty Media has also taken over the MotoGP premier motorcycle class. As MotoGP announced on Monday, the US company secured the acquisition of Dorna Sports, the owner of the commercial rights to the MotoGP, MotoE and Superbike World Championships. According to the announcement, the purchase price for 86 percent of the shares will be $4.2 billion (around 3.9 billion euros), and the deal will be completed by the end of 2024. Dorna will remain an independent company.

“This is the perfect next step in the evolution of MotoGP and we are excited to see what this milestone brings to Dorna, the MotoGP paddock and racing fans,” said Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. “We are pleased to expand our portfolio of leading live sports and entertainment offerings with the acquisition of MotoGP,” said Liberty Media President Greg Maffei.
