Vincent Trocheck and Mika Zibanejad were instrumental in the Rangers’ 4-3 victory over the Capitals, giving them a 2-0 lead in the series.

The score was extended to 4-2 in favor of New York when they scored a goal while playing with fewer players on the ice, with just 3:08 remaining in the second period. Following a mistake made by the Capitals, Zibanejad and Kreider executed a passing play while rushing towards the goal, and Zibanejad passed the puck back to Miller who was positioned in the middle, and which he then shot past Lindgren.

During the Rangers’ second power play, Zibanejad took a shot that deflected off the glove of Capitals’ defenseman Alexander Alexeyev and went past Lindgren’s glove with 5:32 left in the first period. This marked Zibanejad’s 17th goal in 60 postseason games.

Two additional goals were scored for the Rangers by Jack Roslovic and K’Andre Miller. Erik Gustafsson and Alexis Lafreniere contributed by each providing two assists. Igor Shesterkin made 22 saves.

Tom Wilson recorded one goal and one assist, while Connor McMichael and Dylan Strome also scored for the Capitals. They won four out of five games to end the season and secure the second wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference. Goaltender Charlie Lindgren made 23 saves in the game.

The New York Rangers were leading 4-2 when Artemi Panarin of the Rangers made a strong hit on T.J. Oshie, causing some physical confrontation 6 1/2 minutes into the third period. The referees reviewed the play to determine if a major penalty should be called, but ultimately no penalty was given. However, McMichael received a minor penalty for roughing and Wilson exchanged words with rookie standout Matt Rempe while skating near the Rangers’ bench.

With 2 minutes and 48 seconds remaining, the Capitals substituted Lindgren for an additional player and attempted multiple shots, yet failed to tie the game.

Friday’s game against Washington is the third match of the seven-game series.

As the Rangers’ power play was ending, Roslovic took a shot from the right circle that went over Lindgren’s blocker and left shoulder, giving them a 3-2 lead with 7:34 left in the second period.
The Capitals trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes and tied the score with a power-play goal about 30 seconds after Rempe was sent off for roughing. Strome got a pass in front from Wilson and deflected it past Shesterkin at 4:14 of the second for his first career postseason goal. It was the Capitals’ first goal with the man advantage in 17 chances against the Rangers this year.

The Capitals entered the game with the goal of increasing their number of shots on goal. They were successful in the beginning, recording five shots in the first two and a half minutes. However, they only had two more shots during the remainder of the first period.

The New York Rangers, who have clinched the Presidents’ Trophy, won 4-3 against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday evening in game two of their first-round playoff series, with both Vincent Trocheck and Mika Zibanejad scoring a goal and providing an assist. The Rangers now lead the series 2-0.

With 8:15 left, Wilson brought the Capitals within one point by redirecting a shot from Hendrix Lapierre into the air and past Shesterkin for their second power-play goal of the evening.

The New York Rangers, who have not won a Stanley Cup in 30 years, have achieved 4 consecutive wins and 12 victories in their last 15 games. They ranked third in power play during the season and were successful in 2 out of 6 opportunities, even scoring a short-handed goal.

Alex Ovechkin, the left wing for the Washington star team, had only two attempts at scoring during the game, a significant decrease from Game 1 where he didn’t get any.

At 5:09, McMichael scored the first goal of the game for the Capitals. Lindgren, a defenseman for the Rangers, attempted to take the puck from Oshie, but instead it ended up in McMichael’s possession. He wasted no time in shooting it past Shesterkin from the left side. This marked McMichael’s first playoff goal and McIlrath received a helper for earning his first playoff point.

Oshie departed the rink for the locker room, but reentered with approximately five minutes left in the game.

Trocheck equalized the score for the Rangers at 7:56 with their third attempt on goal. Following a faceoff in the right circle, Trocheck redirected a pass from Gustafsson.
