Exciting Start to Serie A Baseball Championship: Platform-Tmc Poviglio to Face Collecchio in Opening Game

The Serie A Baseball championship will finally begin this weekend.

Inserted in group B together with Modena, Verona, Milan, Collecchio and Settimo Torinese, our Platform-Tmc Poviglio of manager Francesco Marchi will play its “Opening Game” away tomorrow, Saturday 20 April, in Collecchio.

The first match, reserved for Italian school pitchers, will be played at 3pm while the second, with foreign pitchers, will be played at 8pm under the floodlights of the Collecchio stadium.

The pre-season of our president Andrea Giovanardi’s team was very encouraging as it won all four matches played in the preparation tournament called “Parma Sping Training 2024”.

Unfortunately, however, bad weather prevented her from playing another two scheduled races and therefore the preparation, although it began in November with intense and frequent training, was not exactly as desired. Not bad, though, because her opponent in this first round also had the same problems.

As you know, Platform-Tmc and Collecchio faced each other last Saturday in the aforementioned tournament and in the only match played with Italian pitchers our boys prevailed 4 to 1. The technicians of the Parma team, however, carried out an evident pre-tactic , deciding not to field their best pitcher, Diego Fabiani, former Parma Clima.

The Parma team is considered by experts to be the favorite in the fight to win the group in this first phase of the championship and to consequently play in the subsequent play-offs. This right will only be available to the first place in each group while all the other teams, organized in new groups balanced on the basis of the results achieved, will play a phase two called “Poule Salvezza”.

Our Platform-Tmc, however, as you well know, has set itself the objective of salvation (which would be the third in a row) which it intends to try to achieve with a very young team (about 23 years on average), very Italian (only two foreign athletes (a third should however be added later) and many from Poviglia. In fact, 4 to 5 athletes who grew up in the club’s youth teams will almost always be present among the starters, a situation that few other realities can replicate.

Despite being the underdogs against an already strong opposing team that has also carried out a very important signing campaign, our team will obviously try to sell their lives dearly and still obtain a positive result. He is aware that to do so he will have to play impeccably in defense since it is probable, at least the results of the friendly match were these, that the matches will turn out to be medium-low scoring. All this, as a consequence of the quality of the pitchers of both teams. Obviously the attack will also have to do its part and in this department our Platform-Tmc would seem, knock on wood, to have nothing to envy of its opponent. Obviously, however, it will be the camp that issues its final verdict.

Regarding the lineups, it is almost certain that in game one Diego Fabiani for Collecchio and Luca Capellano for Poviglio will compete as pitchers. In game two the Cubans Daniel Gongora will take to the mountain for the home team and our own Frank Medina.

As reliefs in the two races, Collecchio can count on excellent athletes such as Acerbi, Bertolini and Guerra. Our training can do the same by having Burani, Trevisan, Censi, Sassi and Giovanardi.

The rest of our defensive formation, in the two games, in our opinion will see Lugli and/or Gastaldi at receiving, Spagnolo and/or Zanichelli at first base, Lettieri and/or Di ronza at second base, Minari shortstop, Lugli and/or Giovanardi at third base, left fielder Nardi, center fielder Castillo, right fielder Giovanardi and/or Spagnolo and designated hitter Friggeri.

So meet our fans and enthusiasts on the Collecchio pitch on Saturday afternoon at 3pm and Saturday evening at 8pm.
